DOCTORAL PROGRAM IN MOLECULAR, CELLULAR AND BIOCHEMICAL PHARMACOLOGY

GRADUATE LEVEL COURSES OFFERED

26-MCBP-801, -802, -803, -804.  Laboratory Rotation.  4 gr. cr.  A series of practical laboratory methods employed in contemporary pharmacology research.  Computer models and modeling, quantitative analysis, statistical applications, experimental design.  Molecular, cellular, organ, organ system and organism levels.  First-year graduate students with supervision of staff.  (Permission of instructor).   

26-MCBP-805, -806, -807.  Seminar.  1 gr. cr.  Emphasis on drugs; mechanism of action; historical, classical and novel concepts; current discoveries; trends in pharmacology.  Oral presentation and written assignments/reports.  Current literature and critical reviews.  (Permission of instructor). 

26-MCBP-823-001.  Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology.  This 5-credit graduate course focuses on cardiac, skeletal and smooth muscle pharmacology at the organ, tissue, cellular and molecular levels. The course is designed to introduce to students integrated concepts of biomechanical and bioenergetics, structure and function, excitation-contraction coupling, ion transport, regulatory mechanisms, biomechanics and drug actions.  (Permission of instructor)  Wtr. 26-MCBP-831.  Receptor Pharmacology.  4 gr. cr.  An introductory course designed specifically for graduate students to supplement portions of their primary course in pharmacology with emphasis on modern concepts of drug-receptor interactions.  (Permission of instructor)  Spr. Qtr.

26-MCBP-841, -842, -843, -844.  Pharmacology and Therapeutics.  2-3 gr. cr. per qtr.  Principles of drug action and the rational use of drugs in clinical disorders.  Lectures, demonstrations and conferences.  Atm./Wtr./Spr. Qtrs.

26-MCBP-851.  Cardiac Muscle.  3 gr. cr. Current concepts of bioenergetics, molecular and cell biology as they relate to the intracellular integration of energy production and utilization in normal and ischemic cardiac muscle.  Spr. Qtr. Alternate Years.

26-MCBP-871.  Lab Rotation.  A series of laboratory problems carried out under supervision of the staff.  Cr. to be arranged.

26-MCBP-888.  Community Pharmacology.  Individual research projects and seminars on use of drugs by medical and non-medical community, e.g., drug epidemiology, drug "abuse", drug information.  Offered each qtr.  Cr. to be arranged.

26-MCBP-903.  Topics in Pharmacology.  1-2 gr. Cr.  Special topics in cutting-edge pharmacology.  (Wtr., Spr. Qtrs.)
